Excel explicitly does not support dates before 1900? Go figure...

That's the weirdest thing! What kind of mentality decides that? I see Open Office is happy enough with historic dates though...

@Jo: one that only really concerns itself with the needs of big business (in the case of Office 2k7 and their XML file format, rumour has it Barclays Capital were the strong influence on everything being just like it was) - dropping support for the ISO standard (in Excel 2k3 XML) is the weirdest thing I ever heard of!
